Dear Pack 188 Scouts and Families,

We’d like to welcome ALL of the new scouts along with their families. We had a very successful recruiting night and would like to thank all those who helped with that effort. We are happy to see the pack growing and remind everyone that we will continue to need parent involvement to help keep things running smoothly. So, we encourage everyone to help out and do their share. Please give a particularly warm welcome to Danielle Klaveta and Jay Zhu who stepped up to be our new Tiger den leaders and Darren Mattos and Joe Pelligra who have offered to assist them!

NEW BUSINESS:

MOST IMPORTANTLY – POPCORN, POPCORN, POPCORN !!!

Tonight is the kick-off of our annual Popcorn Fundraiser.

This is THE most important event of our year.

Pack dues pay for Council membership, Boys’ Life subscriptions. recognition items,

Pinewood Derby and Regatta kits. With the additional funds earned through the Popcorn sale last year, we were able to provide an awesome B&G and we paid for all scouts to attend the encampment at the Liberty Science Center as well as fund our Pack Family Picnic.

With your help this year, we hope to bring in even more programs for the boys.

Terry Schmalzried is our Popcorn Kernel and will fill you in on the program.

We have already had our first Pack Popcorn Blitz at Walmart in Freehold.

In addition, each den will be planning an individual blitz sale with details to be discussed among the den members. Let’s see who can top the record!

Friday, February 5^th – Liberty Science Center Lock-In – Details to be distributed in October – Scouts could possibly go free depending on the Pack’s Popcorn Sales – “Do Your Best”

Ø      Saturday, October 3^rd – Annual Fishing Derby at Quail Hill 9:00 – 2:00 Rain or Shine, Bring a Bag Lunch, Bring your own Pole & Bait. Cost is $1.00 per participant. This is an event offered by Council (and not a Pack planned event) therefore all questions should be directed to the Council Service Center at (732) 536-2347. You do not have to commit to the entire day but may join in the fun whenever you can.

Ø      Saturday, October 24^th  – 9:00 AM – Noon - Beach Sweep – come have your den join us for community service by helping to clean up New Jersey beaches. Save the date. Details to be announced.

REMINDERS:

Pack Calendars for the 2009–2010 year are attached. Please mark your calendars for all Pack meeting dates as well as a few of the major events that are already listed. Please note that although the calendar is TENTATIVE and there could be some changes, these dates are as firm as possible at this time.

Pack Dues ($90/scout) for new scouts are due immediately.

Pack Dues ($80/scout) for continuing scouts are due to your den leaders no later than Thursday, October 29^th

RULES OF THE PACK have also been distributed as well as the “PACK 188 PROMISE” Please read carefully. With a growing number in attendance at Pack meetings, you are reminded that you are responsible for you son’s actions as well as those of any other family members in attendance. All children must be accompanied to the bathrooms. Under no circumstances should anyone be wandering the halls of the school other than on their way to or from the Cafeteria.
